"It has bothered me all my life that I do not paint like everybody else." - Henri Matisse
Festival of Visual Art in Atlantic Canada
The project coordinator of FAVA (Festival of Visual Art in Atlantic Canada), in Caraquet invited me to represent the province of New Brunswick. Caraquet has been nominated for the Cultural Capital of Canada. The festival has been in existence since 1991 and includes artists from Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and France. Some well-renowned art groups on the commercial field also occasionally grace the event with their presence, one of the regulars being Berlin-based filmmakers film deluxe. This year's event runs from June 25 - 29th. I'm afraid I won't be able to participate but it was a great honour nonetheless to have been invited.

I've also received numerous comments from fellow artists - all very positive. It's a wonderful, supportive community. I highly recommend joining! Art Cards on Sale in Gift Shops
May 5, 2007 - I just heard that my art cards - produced by Pierre Belvedere as part of the Canadian Artist Collection - are on sale not only in Sears stores but in gift shops and stationary stores. A friend said she saw my cards at the ever-popular Masstown Market.
Featured Artist at Zazzle

Art Cards now on Sale at Sears
March 2007 - You can now purchase my art cards at Sears stores across Canada. Look for the Pierre Belvedere card and giftware display. My cards are part of a series called The Canadian Artist Collection. Here's a blurb from the Pierre Belvedere website:
The Great Canadian Artist Collection: An exclusive collection of 87 works of magnificent imagery representing the diversity of Canadian landscapes from our talented Canadian artists. Find a retailer for these items.
Hiking Trail Signage Design
March 2007 - May 2008 - Riverview's Dobson's Trail hosts a wide variety of wildlife. I was asked to design signs to educate visitors about the types of birds who are found in abundance along the trail.
Town Flag Design
February 2007 - I was invited to design a flag for the town of
Pugwash, Nova Scotia. Pugwash is home to the Pugwash Peace Exchange, and the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, hence the symbol of the dove and the globe. Pugwash is also a fishing port and is rich in natural beauty, thus I used a fishing boat and a leaf on flag #2. Finally, Pugwash is located on the Sunrise Trail of Nova Scotia so I added a sun to the latter flag as well.
Gathering of the Clans Logo Design
April 2006 - I designed the logo for the Pugwash Gathering of the Clans. The dancer is doing the Highland Fling, symbolic of the Highland Games and this years' slogan: 'Summer Fling'. I've employed Celtic fonts and illuminated lettering. The word Gathering is undulating like a wave, representing the Northumberland Strait. The letter 'i' is dotted with a red maple leaf, symbolizing Canada Day, the date of the gathering.
School Art Project Subject
November 2005 - A Grade Seven art student in Ontario chose my art as the subject for her school project. Boy, was I floored! She created a reproduction of Avondale Wharf in pastels. I was utterly delighted to answer her questions about my art influences and techniques, and I was equally pleased to see the results of her project. What a talented young lady!
Art to Appear on Pierre Belvedere Cards
September 2005 - Two pieces from my digital art collection - Lighthouse Post Office and Lawn Chairs - were selected by the Pierre Belvedere Group for inclusion in a series of fine art greeting cards entitled the Canadian Artist Series. The card series will be sold in stores across Canada, and will include over 100 works of art by 30 or more Canadian artists. The series will showcase our country from landscape to flora, fauna, and people.
Featured Artist
April 2005 - I was chosen Artist of the Month by Canadian Artists, a Web site which showcases established, as well as emerging, audio, visual and literary talent in Canada.
Featured Artist
January 2005 - I was a featured contributing artist in the January issue of Zazzle's newsletter, entitled zNews.
Commemorative Postage Stamp Design
September 2004 - In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Sir Charles Tupper Elementary School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, I was asked to create a digital art of the school and students. My artwork was then placed on a commemorative stamp issued by Canada Post, and used by the school staff throughout the year. It was such a pleasure to have been given this opportunity, especially in light of the fact that I was once a student of this fine old school.
Canadian Expo Opportunity
May 2004 - I was invited by official agents of the Canadian Department of Culture to apply for the position of Artist/Storyteller at Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. Even though I wasn't ultimately chosen to represent the East Coast, I was still thrilled to have been short-listed for the role.
